Crossreach December 2019 Report

OVERVIEW: Although a catastrophic year for Grand Bahama, it was a stupendous year for Crossreach where all records were broken by the distribution of goods and supplies totaling 50 times that of our previous best year. Primarily thanks to the incredible inflow of everything from food, supplies, building materials and volunteers to help with distribution, and with repairs and renovations to damaged properties. Instead of our usually monthly runs, Crossreach teams loaded up and delivered mountains of food and supplies daily through until mid-November and at least 2 or 3 times a week thereafter. A superb effort by many new Crossreach members and helpers.

Agape Flights was our biggest importer of supplies, flying in planeloads once or twice a week since early September.

The Crossreach bay was overfilled with supplies and immediately emptied by distribution runs time & time again. The Agape executives joined Crossreach on our pre-Christmas run on December 14th where boxes of supplies packed by the Salvation Army, together with bags from the Crossreach warehouse and Christmas presents for the children were distributed to all of our run recipients as well as occasional needy persons met along the way.

Clowns Without Borders also joined the Christmas run and put on a performance for all of the children (and adults) in and around the Garden Villas area. An entertaining 1-hour show was followed up with the distribution of boxes of supplies to as many of those present as possible.

Nekemea Jones lost her son, Mario 2 days after Dorian passed. The house she was renting, flooded during the storm and was contaminated with mold. She moved closer into town into a duplex which seemed to be in good repair, paying out funds for 1st, last & security deposit. However, after moving in, the floor tiles began lifting, the baths & toilets backed up with sewage forcing her to move yet again. Crossreach has pledged to help her with funds for the initial deposits in a safe and secure location.

Crossreach 2020: We are still in the planning stages for Crossreach going forward into 2020. With unemployment already over 45% and expected to go higher, our recipient list will have to expand. Concurrently our volunteer force must expand with it and we already have some very willing and regular helpers from the last few months. Our warehouse needs to be larger and therefore relocated away from its old location at RAM.

Special thanks to all who have helped over the past months since Hurricane Dorian stormed our shores. You have all made a significant difference in the lives of the people of Grand Bahama, and have shared the love of Christ with those most in need. God bless you all!
